On the wrist of Jérôme Lemoine

Former billiard player and watches passionate, I had the chance to meet Romain Rea, which marked the start of a great collaboration and friendship. Now it has been more than 20 years that I have bathed in the world of watchmaking.

After being director of our parent company, 26 rue du Bac, here I am now in our new shop near the Champs Elysées, 25 rue Marbeuf.

Today, the watch I wear is a very beautiful Rolex Daytona Big Red Ref. 6265 Silver dial with black meters. Admittedly, this is a mythical watch, but, in my eyes, it is above all a reflection of a whole page in watchmaking and sporting history and a timeless chronograph.

The emblem of an era

The Daytona, named after the famous racing circuit of Daytona Beach in Florida, appears in 1963. Since then, it more or less respects the same criteria: a chronograph, a Valjoux 72 caliber and very readable meters ... Reliability and performance are the key words that define this emblematic model; And this is the reason why he became the reward for the winners of the famous 24h of Daytona.

I like the story of this watch, linked to the world of sport and the automobile. Cutting for the race and carried by Paul Newman as well as Jean Paul Belmondo, it represents the time of all challenges and all possibilities.

A modern vintage watch

The reference 6265 is introduced on the market at the same time as the 6263, in 1969. The two models adopt the famous screwed push -ups which make the watch waterproof to 50 m. It is this novelty, allowing a daily range, which attracts buyers. The difference between the two references is the steel telescope on the 6265, and not that of black epoxy of the 6263, which gives the watch a more contemporary and more refined aspect.

And it is this modernity that we find in the red inscription of "Daytona" above the counter at 6 am which strengthens the sport spirit of the watch. This signature of the factory in red on the dial, hence the name "Big Red", in fact, moreover, a collector's item.

Beyond the fact that it is an icon of watchmaking, I find it very balanced and very homogeneous from the point of view of the size and contrast of the dial and the meters. Modern and vintage ... A real oxymoron and yet it is the bet held by Rolex with the reference 6265.
